Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy centers on meeting students where they are, providing scaffolding tailored to their growth, and creating space for creative risk-taking. Grounded in Paolo Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed and Lev Vygotsky's “Zone of Proximal Development,” I view teaching and creative production as inseparable practices. Whether mentoring students through narrative structure, on-set problem-solving, or interactive storytelling, I prepare them not only to make work but to build sustainable careers with ethical frameworks and professional resilience.

Below are selected evaluations from courses in composition, screenwriting, and production. These reflect consistent student engagement, positive feedback, and my ongoing efforts to refine inclusive, responsive teaching strategies.
A summary sheet is provided for a quick overview.

Creative Agenda
My creative research investigates trauma, power, and marginalized experience through genre-flexible filmmaking with a focus on dark drama, horror, and experimental forms. I use cinematic technique as a tool for cognitive disruption to make visible what mainstream cinema renders invisible. My practice spans narrative film, experimental shorts, stage plays, and community-engaged media, with active projects including Bloodroot (psychological thriller feature in development), the “Silent Abuse” short film series, and Closet Space (LGBTQ+ game show). I do not tell stories about marginalized communities; I create infrastructure for those communities to shape how their stories are told.
I write across horror, fantasy, experimental, and hybrid forms, letting each story dictate the genre it inhabits rather than imposing constraints in advance. My formal choices arise intuitively as I draft, revealing meaning through accumulation and juxtaposition rather than premeditated symbolism. I pursue research rigorously and collaborate with consultants who bring lived expertise to deepen authenticity. My work engages uncomfortable subject matter, manipulates perception, and allows humor and horror to coexist in destabilizing ways. I aim to create visceral experiences where audiences feel with their whole bodies before they intellectualize, prioritizing affect over perfect interpretation.
