Casting Call: The Keeper

A web-series proof of concept

In a void where stories go to die, the trapped Keeper is forced to give lost dreams one last chance to be seen, heard, and remembered.

The Keeper

A strange “maybe-not-human?” being. Sarcastic. They exist in the void, always sitting in their chair.

Actor notes: Your audition should include a chair; consider it an extension of the Keeper. Props are a-ok. The Keeper is written as a smoker, but we can add it in post if necessary.

Time Commitment:
Filming - 1 day

Caroline

Female-presenting, any age. An outbound call center worker who's convinced she's going to die. We get to see her die on screen… a lot.

Actor notes: Experience with stage/screen falls is preferred. Half of the role’s speaking is done via voice-over. Balance customer service voice with the existential dread that comes from being in customer service.

Time Commitment:
Filming - TBD ~4 days
Voice-over - 1 day

Doug

Any gender, any age. Caroline's coworker, a realistic fuddy-duddy. The most standard office-worker.

Actor notes: Half of the role’s speaking is done via voice-over.

Time Commitment:
Filming - TBD ~2 days
Voice-over - 1 day

Self-Tape Requirements

  • Camera: Use a good quality camera, such as a smartphone with a high-resolution camera (1080p or 4K). Ensure it's steady, using a tripod or stable surface.

  • Lighting: Find a well-lit area, preferably with natural light. Avoid strong shadows on your face.

  • Audio: Clear audio is essential. Record in a quiet space with minimal background noise. Consider using an external microphone for better sound quality.

  • Background: Use a neutral, plain background that doesn't distract from your performance.

  • Frame: Frame yourself from the belly or chest up, with your head near the top of the frame. Ensure there's enough headroom and space on both sides of your shoulders. For the Keeper, feel free to have a wider frame.

  • Slate: State your name, height, and role(s) you’re auditioning for at the beginning of your tape.
